Meryl "Baldy" Karr, 80, of Dysart died on May 1, 2010 at Sunnycrest Nursing Center of natural causes. There will be a visitaton held at Overton Funeral Home, Dysart, on Friday, May 7 from 4 to 8 p.m. A private family service will follow at a later date.
He was born on January 1, 1930 on the family farm near Clark's Park in Tama County; the son of Roy and Bertha (Coleman) Karr. The youngest of seven children, Baldy grew up in the Buckingham and Geneseo area and attended school at Geneseo.
Meryl married Marjorie Goings on December 3, 1949 in Waterloo. Over the years, he hauled cream for the Traer Creamery, worked for Rath Packing Co. in Waterloo, hauled milk for the Hudson Coop Creamery, worked for the city of Dysart and retired from Land O Lakes Dairy in Hudson. After retirement, Meryl operated K & K Trucking as a grain hauler.
Baldy is preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Cleone, Darrel, Raymond and Dale Karr and two sisters, Nadine Kanis and Lenora Nation
He is survived by his wife, Marjorie; five sons, Steven (Cindi) of Dysart, Craig (Jane) of Dysart, Kevin (Cindy) of Bonaparte, Kelvin (Vicky) of Dysart and Scott (Dawn) of Dysart; four daughters, Becci Karr (Ken Vine) of Hiawatha, Jori "Debbi" (Mark) Hollis of Portland, Ore., Brenda (Barry) Roberts of Dysart and Jodi (Tim) Canton of Bourbonnais, Ill.; fourteen grandchildren; six great-grand children and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
