The 2010 Soccer season is under way at Union High School. With varsity coach, Lizzie Zondo (2nd year) and Junior Varsity Coach, Joel Boyer (3rd year) getting ready for what hopes to be another great year.

With the loss of only two seniors this year, Union has almost the complete team that made it to the state-semifinals last season. With players, Darian Powell having State Honors as forward-All State Elite Team and All-State First Team and a career state record of 70 goals and 23 assists, Ashley Frush with stopper-All-State Honorable mention with a career stat of 6 goals and 13 assists and Lauren Bauer; center-mid with 33 goals and 55 assists, it is assumed that these three will be who will be playing the "leadership" role this season.

Coach Zondo said, "We've enjoyed out first week of practice and are looking forward to a challenge when we meet Cedar Falls in the jamboree this coming Monday. They are an experienced team with strong coaching, so we're excited to see how we fare against them."

Other returning starters for the Union Knights are sophmore; Whitney Blunt as goalkeeper having 149 saves/0.45 goals against average, sophmore Brittany Frush as sweeper, sophmore Kaley Grosse as left back, Kelsi HIlmer as forward with 7 career goals and 8 assists, sophmore Noel Komers as forward with 5 goals and 10 assists, senior Lindsay Peterson as right back and senior Natisha Robb as right mid with 3 goals and 12 assists. Returning letter winners are Kelsey Ewald, Abby Hager, Bryanna McFarland, Alexis Rose and Tori Zempel.

The girls will have their first scheduled game on April 10, at 9 am against Iowa City in Iowa City. Check out the full 2010 schedule for the girls soccer at
