John David Mehlhaus, 72 of Dysart died Thursday, April 1, 2010 at home from cancer. Services were held Monday, April 5 at Zion Luthern Church in Dysart with burial at Gnagy Cemetery in Dysart.
John David Mehlhaus was born November 30, 1937 at Davenport, the son of Harold and Leonora Seebach Mehlhaus. He received his education in Dysart and graduated from Dysart High School in the class of 1956. He continued his education at Wartburg College in Waverly where he received a business degree in 1962. He also played basketball for the Wartburg Knights. On August 5, 1961 he was united in marriage to June Rickhoff at Blue Island, Ill. John and June made their home in Waverly, Des Moines and Fort Dodge where he worked as a Collection Agent for The Associates. In the spring of 1965 they returned to the Dysart community where they made their home farming east of Dysart. More recently they moved to a home in Dysart where his death came on Thursday, April 1, 2010 at the age of 72 years. John was an active member of the Zion Lutheran Church where had served on the church council and had served as President. He also took an active role in the Dysart community and served as President of the Dysart School Board, and was on the Dysart Historical Society Board. In his free times John could be found at the Gathering Place in Dysart enjoying coffee with the "Coffee Guys" He was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his wife June of Dysart , two children Jody (Kent) Eubank of West Des Moines and Matt (Tammy) Mehlhaus of Eden Prairie, Minn, four grandchildren, Jon, Sara, Becca and Tanner, and a brother Doug (Mary) Mehlhaus of Dysart.
