Rachele Monroe, a senior at the University of New Orleans, ended her collegiate basketball career, as the Lady Privateers placed fourth in the Sunbelt Conference Tournament, held in Hot Springs, Arkansas, the week of March 8.
In the opening round of the tournament, Monroe scored a career high 14 points and pulled down 5 rebounds, leading the 12th-seeded University of New Orleans to an upset over 5th-seeded Florida Atlantic, 51-50. UNO then pulled another upset over 4th seeded Denver, advancing to the semi-final round with a 55-48 win. The Lady Privateers tournament run came to an end, however, with a 73-43 loss to top-seeded University of Arkansas Little Rock. New Orleans finished the season with a record of 12-20.
Prior to the tournament, it was announced that Monroe had been named on the Sunbelt Commissioners list for achieving a grade point average of 3.5 or higher. Monroe will graduate this summer from UNO with a degree in physicology and a minor in biology.
Monroe, a 2006 Union High School graduate, is the daughter of Scott and Sandy Monroe of Clutier.
