Dorothy M. Pearson, age 95, a resident of Sunrise Hill Care and Rehab Center in Traer, formerly of Clutier, died Thursday, February 25, 2010 at the care center under the care of Hospice Compassus. Funeral services were held on Monday, March 1, 2010 at the Clutier Community Church in Clutier with Pastor James Perry officiating. Interment will follow at Oneida Cemetery in rural Clutier.
Dorothy was born on March 6, 1914 in Bladensburg the daughter of Elmer and Bessie (Carter) Handy. She was united in marriage to Ora N. "Bud" Pearson on December 29, 1934 in Ottumwa. Dorothy was a homemaker and farmwife. In her spare time, she enjoyed embroidery, sewing, and quilting. Dorothy also enjoyed cooking and baking, and her specialty was making turtle cookies for her grandchildren. She loved her daughter's dog Tobee as well. Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband Ora N. "Bud" Pearson on January 5, 2005; one grandson, Steve Cook; five brothers, Orien, Clyde, Millard, and infants Frankie and Joe Handy; and three sisters, Mattie Bailey, Grace Crawford, and Hazelle Handy.
Survivors include two sons, Ora Jay (and his wife, Marilyn) Pearson of Iowa City and Gary (and his wife, Linda) Pearson of Clutier; one daughter, Virginia Jensen of Clutier; twenty grandchildren; thirty-nine great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Evelyn Deusen of Vinton; and one brother-in-law Keith (and his wife, Joyce) Pearson of Van Horne. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Memorials may be directed to Hospice Compassus or Sunrise Hill Care and Rehab Center.
