Jim L. Medberry, 59 of Garwin, formerly of Gladbrook and Marshalltown died Tuesday, December 8, 2009 at the Marshalltown Hospital of a sudden illness. Services were held Saturday, December 12 at Elim Lutheran Church in Marshalltown with burial to be at a later date. Jim L. Medberry was born May 7, 1950 at Marshalltown, the son of Lyle and Shirley Schultz Medberry. Jim grew up in Gladbrook, where he attended school and graduated with the Class of 1969. He continued his education at a culinary school in Ottumwa, and following his graduation he worked as a chef in Marshalltown and Omaha, Neb. On August 1, 1985 he married Tammy Croft and their marriage later ended in divorce. Jim has always made his home in Gladbrook and Marshalltown and currently was making his home at the Union Grove Lake near Garwin. For the past several years he was employed at Lennox Industries in Marshalltown. After he was recently layed off he returned to Marshalltown Community College to further his education. On Tuesday he suffered an apparent heart attack and was admitted to the Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center where his death occurred that evening at the age of 59 years. Jim had a love of music and spent much of his free time planning and promoting numerous charitable events in his home town area. He was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by three sisters; Kathy (Brad) Pennington of Marshalltown, Mary (Jim) Hall of Tama, and Cherie (Shawn) Overton of Traer, Tammy and Jeff Willfong, his long time friends, and several nieces and nephews. |
