Bethel "Betty Barr, 87 of rural Traer, died at her home on December 8, 2009 after an extended illness. Services were held Saturday, December 12 at Overton funeral home in Traer with burial at Buckingham Cemetery, rural Traer. Bethel "Betty Barr was born April 26, 1922 at Dysart, the daughter of Adam and Addie Swartout Dicken. She received her education at Dysart and graduated from Dysart High School in 1939. On September 3, 1939 she was united in marriage to Robert Barr at the Amity Presbyterian Church. Betty and Bob made their home farming northwest of Traer. In 1948 they moved to Eldora. After raising their two daughters, Betty worked for the Pine Lake Motel and was also a clerk at the local grocery store. In 1974 they retired back to the farm North of Traer where she continued to live following Bob's death on May 23, 1994. For many years they enjoyed wintering in Brownsville, Texas where Betty continued to go even after his death. She was a member of Amity Presbyterian Church, and was a prior member of the Congreation Church of Christ in Eldora. She also was a member of the Order of Eastern Star in Eldora and Traer, and was active until her illness. She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter Donna in 1971, seven brothers, Gilbert, Lawrence, Dilman, Dale, Alvin, Mahlon and Lloyd, and 2 sisters Beryl and Mildred. She is survived by a daughter Bonnie Butler of Traer, two grandsons, David and Mark, their father, George, and one granddaughter, Julie and her father, James, and 3 great grandchildren, Hannah, Michael and Kaycee, as well as many nieces and nephews. |
