Marion Berger, 81 of Traer died Monday, October 26 at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo of a sudden illness. Services were held October 29 at Ripley United Church of Christ in Traer with burial at Buckingham Cemetery also in Traer. Marion Samuel Berger was born June 23, 1928 in rural Toledo, the son of Lonnie and Rose Youngman Berger. He received his education in country school and later attended Toledo High School graduating with the Class of 1945. On July 13, 1948 he was united in marriage to Faye Harrah in Montour. They made their home farming near Gilman, Montour and in 1961 moved to a farm northwest of Traer. In 1988 they retired to town, but Marion remained active on the farm. Marion's death came at the Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo on Monday, October 26, 2009 at the age of 81 years. He was an active member of the Ripley United Church of Christ, Traer Lions Club and was active in the heart rehab program in Cedar Falls. In his free time he enjoyed playing cards, golfing, fishing, and bowling and enjoyed spending time with his family and attending his grandchildren activities. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Merle, and two sisters, Martha Benson and Rose Mary Hall. He is survived by his wife Faye, two sons; Calvin Berger and Denny (Jill) Berger all of Traer, one daughter Chris (Roger) Tucker of Cedar Rapids, two grandchildren, Mindy (Trevor) Oberholtz and Scott Berger and his fianc Alana Peterson, one brother Don (Jenny) Berger of Fairfax, and one sister Ruth Larson and her friend Gerald of Marshalltown. |
