Mary E. Ehr, 88

JESUP Mary E. Ehr, 88 years old of Jesup, IA, died Wednesday, October 21, 2009, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo following a short illness. She was born August 6, 1921, in Waterloo the daughter of John Arthur Racey and Anna Christine (Klein) Racey. In 1939 she graduated from Sacred Heart Catholic High School in Waterloo. On May 22, 1944, Mary was united in marriage to Nicholas George Ehr at St. John's Catholic Church in Waterloo. They farmed in the Jesup area until his death in 1980. Mary continued living on the farm until 1992 when she moved to town. She enjoyed being a farm wife, she was also a seamstress and long-time 4-H leader. In later years she volunteered at St. Athanasius School and was a member of the school hall of fame. She was a member of St. Athanasius Catholic Church and of Catholic Daughter of America Court of St. Pius X - #1714. Mrs. Ehr is survived by two sons, James N. (Colleen) Ehr of Fredericksburg, Jacob "Bill" (Deb) Ehr, of Mineral Point, Wis. six daughters, Sue (Charley) Brown of Jesup, Kathleen Kennicott of Dysart, Michelle (Robert) Thoma of Independence, IA, Patricia (Dan) Monat of Jesup, IA, Jeanette (Bill) Delagardelle of Jesup, IA, Maggie Ehr of Raymond, IA. 25 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, sister in law and brother in law, Dick and Georgia Yount of Jesup, and her best friend and neighbor, Majel Kehoe of Jesup. In addition to her husband Nick, she was preceded in death by her parents, one son, Joseph Ehr, two grandchildren, one sister, Ruth Zubak, one son in law, Charles "Chuck" Kennicott, and a daughter in law, Nancy Ehr.

Funeral services were held Monday, October 26, 2009, at St. Athanasius Catholic Church, Jesup, with Fr. Kenneth C. Stecher officiating. Music was by Marsha Delagardelle, Brett Hershberger, Todd Rohlfsen and the St. Athanasius Choir. Casket Bearers were Ben Thoma, Charles Thoma, Nick Delagardelle, Linda Brown, David Ehr, Mariah Ehr, Megan Monat, Michael Ehr. Memorials will be directed to charity.
