On Saturday, October 24, the Dysart Tree Board held a Fall Tree Planting Day. Seven trees were planted on the C.R. Roberts Trail and three trees were planted in the park. The trees were all memorial trees with funding provided by John's Qwik Stop and a Trees Forever/Branching Out Grant from Alliant Energy.Varieties planted included Burgundy Belle Maple, Chanticleer Pear, Korean Sun Pear, American Hornbeam, Hophornbeam, Bald Cypress, Pagoda Dogwood, and Royal Raindrops Crabapple. All the varieties are appropriate for planting in Dysart and are on the Tree Board's approved tree list. Volunteers assisting families in planting trees included Tree Board President Kevin Alpers, members Ron Miller, Rex Raub, Lyle and Joanne Ternus, Dennis Wieben, and Catharine Wieck. Dysart Park Board member Don Sparks, Union High School and Big Creek Landscaping Company member Josh Dunkelberger also assisted in the planting project. A number of familiy members and friends were also on hand to help plant a memorial tree. The next City Planting Day will take place in spring, 2010.
The Kittner family who reside near La Porte City are one of the families who planted a tree last Saturday for the Fall Tree Planting Day.
