Tuesday morning Tama County Supervisors Larry Vest, Dan Wilkens and Kendall Jordan met with Allen Ricks, Iowa State University Extension Regional Director. Ricks stated many changes are being made in the Extension program. Ricks says the Iowa State University Extension has a shortfall of money in the state. Funding also comes from county property taxes, supported county operations, also a portion to Iowa State, pooled to help county directors. Ricks represents Region 9 which covers six counties, Blackhawk, Bremer, Buchanan, Butler, Grundy and Tama. There are twenty regional directors.
Ricks says the county extension office will remain open. Frank Albertson will be the county extension coordinator and has been rehired on a half-time basis. Others in the office include Bonnie Murty, Office Assistant and Darla Thiessen as County Youth Coordinator.
In other business a 28E Agreement with Central Iowa Juvenile Detention was approved. Several counties are included.
Bill Christensen, Tama County Zoning Commissioner, visited with the supervisors concerning a zoning ordinance covering wind generators and minor subdivisions. Christensen says wind generators are gaining popularity and he feels it is important to have a zoning ordinance covering them. Supervisors advised Christensen to work with Marty Wymore of Area 6. Wymore helped write the ordinance book a few years ago.
Christensen also asked about direction for minor subdivisions when sections of ground are broken off a persons property to allow a child or someone to build a home on this tract. These usually are aproximately one to two acres. This will also be studied, probably being worked into something along with the wind generator ordinance,
