The 8th grade volleyball team swept up at S. Tama last night winning all. The C group started us off a little slow but they kept building up as the night went on Savannanah Downing had 8 straight serves with 5 of them being aces. Ellie Even had 7 straight serves with 6 of them being aces in game two. Emily Samuelson and Jess Bohnstengel led in the hitting category. Jess also had a tip to the other side scores 21-11 and 21-10. The B team was behind by 7 points but pulled it together to come out on top 21-16 and 21-11. There was a lot of good setting coming from Leah Jungling and Olivia Burnside leading to hits from Janelle Hammond, Nicole Bechthold, and Olivia. There was some good net play from Nicole Bechthold and Jungling. Janelle ended the game with a push to the back. The A group was put to the test by a very aggressive S Tama team who hadn't lost a game until we showed up in the picture. The Knights hit down hard but it was difficult for them to get a spike as the Trojans pulled the ball out of the floor and returned it back to the Knight side. There was a lot of good volleys going on. Ace serving came from Brenna Allen, Jena Boisen, Raini Hilmer, and Bre Bader. Tessa Reiter was our steady eddie server and saved some in the back row. Barz and Boisen had a great block to stop their rally going. Raini Hilmer ended the game on an ace serve with scores being 21-18 and 21-11.
On Sept. 28th the team traveled to Jesup and took 4 out of 6 games winning to a very aggressive team with good passes from the back row. Brenna Allen and Raini Hilmer led the ace category with 6 each followed by Bre Bader with 5 and Jena Boisen with 2. Jena, Brenna, Raini, Bre and Lauren Barz had two spikes a piece plus a tip from Lauren to set the pace for the A team. The B group had two exciting games but came out on top with Ellie Even serving 10 straight serves and Janelle Hammond leading in the ace column with 5. The C group lost two very close games that they couldn't quite come out of the hole. Jess Bohnstengel had some really nice passes from the back row and Emily Samuelson was hot on the service line with 9 ace serves.
