Senator Tom Harkin

WASHINGTON, D.C. Senator Tom Harkin (D-IA) announced that the Sac and Fox Tribe, commonly known as the Meskwaki Tribe, in Tama County received $311,616 from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development's (HUD) Indian Housing Block Grant (IHBG) Program. These funds will be used to support affordable housing initiatives. Harkin is a senior member of the Senate panel that funds housing initiatives. "These funds will help families with modest incomes obtain quality housing and pursue economic opportunities," said Harkin. "These are especially tough times for homeowners and this funding will help strengthen the Meskwaki Tribe." Indian Housing Block Grant funds can be used for a variety of activities, including operating assistance, development of affordable housing, housing services and housing management for low-income housing and crime prevention safety.
