Union Soccer

June 17, 2009
Dysart Reporter

The Union Knights girls' soccer team proved themselves state-worthy in a well-fought match against the Dubuque Wahlert Golden Eagles in Independence on Monday night. Freshman center forward Darian Powell landed a bicycle kick to assist the first goal, scored by fellow freshman forward Noel Komers with fifteen minutes left in the first half.

The Knights came out hard in the second half and converted in less than three minutes. Junior center-mid Lauren Bauer sent a corner kick to the far post and senior forward Cathy Reiter used her head to put the ball in the back of the net. The rest of the game remained scoreless, thanks to outstanding play in the back by freshmen sweeper Brittany Frush, outside back Kaley Grosse, goalie Whitney Blunt, sophomore stopper Ashley Frush, and junior outside back Lindsey Petersen. Union wins 2-0.
