Union closed its first week of the season with a doubleheader split at Oelwein. In the first game, the Knights pounded out 15 hits to back the pitching of Mate Bellmeyer. Nate allowed seven hits and one earned run in going the distance in the 10-1 victory. Cheyne Reiter was four for five with three RBI's. Matt Prestemon scored three times on three hits and Matt Feuerbach drove in four.
In the second game, errors plagued the Knights as they spotted Oelwein a 9-0 lead before making it close in the seventh before Oelwein closed the door on a 9-5 win. Matt Prestemon led the offense with a hit and two RBI's. Cheyne Reiter took the loss.
Union opened conference play at Denver with a 6-1 loss. Shoddy defense along with seven walks and six Denver hits gave Matt Feuerbach the loss (1-1). Cheyne Reiter drove in the long Union run with a double in the fourth. Knight hitters struck out 12 times.
On June 3, the Knights traveled to Columbus and received a 15-0 thumping. Knight hitters continued to struggle in a four inning loss. Matt Prestemon was the victim on the mound.
On the following night, the Knights evened their conference record at 1-1 with a nail biting 2-1 win over AP. The Knights won in the bottom of the seventh with two outs. Matt Prestemon reached on a dropped third strike. Cory Feldpouch then worked a walk to puch him to second. Senior Matt Feuerbach then came through with a walk off base hit to win the game. Nate Bellmeyer battled AP hitters all night striking out seven and walking one. He allowed three hits and one earned run in running his record to 2-0.
