May's Yard of the Month is located at 302 Sherman Street, owners are Charles and Debbie Peterson. Looking at the pictures you can tell this is not a yard for anyone that does not have a green thumb. Many varieties of plants, flowers and trees are scattered throughout the property, giving this yard, credit where credit is due. The house, previously built and owned by MaryAnn and the late Dick Kavalier in the early 90's was the beginning of this landscaping process. After the Petersons bought the property in 2001 they added there own taste to the already beautiful yard. Through the years with some of the ornamental plants dying the Petersons have replaced them with plants such as arborvitae and spiraea. The back yard of this property is just as beautiful as the front with plenty of room to relax and enjoy the surroundings including bird feeders that attract several species of birds like cardinals and woodpeckers. Wildlife at any giving time can be spotted while sitting out on the patio area or from looking out the bay window in the kitchen that looks over the back yard. With tall pine trees lining the property, Debbie Peterson commented that it almost feels like she is in a rural area rather than a residential one. During the July celebration in Dysart, the couple enjoys sitting around the fire pit with friends and family to watch the fireworks display that are literally set off on their property in back. "We always loved this place when we drove by before we owned it" stated D. Peterson so when the offer came up to buy it there was no doubt that is where they wanted to be. Though it was a surprise to Debbie how much maintance the yard really takes it is well worth it and does have two helpers that help keep this yard an eye catcher and well worth the yard of the month. Dysart's yard of the month is sponsored by the DDC.
