May 27, 2009
Dysart Reporter

The Union Knights Girls Tennis team had a successful day at the 2009 NICL conference meet. The Knights where bolstered by strong Doubles play to nudge past NUHS for 4th place in the tournament. Leading the way for Union was the #1 Doubles team of Brittany Ecklund and Briar Zeien. The girls would come in unseeded, but would surprise the #3 seeded team from AGWSR 8-5, to advance into the semi-finals. Ecklund and Zeien were not done yet, as the girls would defeat the #2 seeded team from AP by the identical score of 8-5. The girls would fall behind 0-4 in the finals, before rallying to make the team of Weinberg/Paar fight hard for a 8-5 victory. "Both girls played great in Doubles today. They were both serving very well, and really made some big shots for us." All three Union Doubles teams would win in the first round of play. The #3 team of Sara Jesse and Nadine Steger would finish in 3rd place."We came into the meet without our regular #4 girl Haley Flores. Haley had a serious medical condition come up last week. She is recovering fine now thank goodness, but she will not be able to play anymore for us. "Trisha Even stepped in and did a great job for us at #4 Singles and teamed with Leigh Crees at #2 Doubles. I am very happy with how the girls never gave up. We didn't play real well in Singles, but the girls never give up, and really came on in Doubles. Trisha Even was named meet medalist for Union.
