UMS boys Track

The Union Middle School track boys traveled to Dike-New Hartford on April 14, to kick off their season with a dominating performance. The seventh graders finished first with a total of 161 with DNH finishing second. The champions for the seventh grade were Jay Scheel in the long jump setting a school record with a jump of 16 feet and 7.5 inches; Marcelo Hernandez in the 100m dash with a 13.56 and the 200m dash in 27.32. Dylan Kokesh won the 400m dash with a time of 1:00.50, the 7 flight hurdles with a new record of 11.58, and a new record in the 200m hurdles in 28.70. Union also won the 1600m medley relay with a time of 4:38.54 and the 4 x 400m relay in a time of 4:27.46. The eighth graders also won with a new school record of most points at a single meet with 200.5 points. Eighth grade champs were Will Crees in the discus with a throw of 126 feet and six inches, Dalton Crosser in the shot put with a toss of 39 feet and nine inches. Trev Hadachek won in the long jump with a jump of 16 feet and seven inches, the 100m dash in 12.65, and the 400m dash with a time of 56.96. Mitchell Dierks won the 200m dash in 26.71, Isaac Merchant finished first in the 1600m run with a time of 5:36.24. The team also won the 4 x 800m relay with a time of 9:50.90, 4 x 400m relay in 4:15.37, and the 800m medley relay in 2:17.89.

The UMS boys track team continued their season at the Trojan Relays in South Tama on April 21. The eight grade won with 117 points and Pella came in second with 103.5 points. Eighth grade champions were Trev Hadachek in the long jump with a jumpo of 17 feet and 5.5 inches and the 1600m medley relay. Mitchell Dierks in the high jump with a jump of five feet even. Will Crees won the discus with a throw of 115 feet and 6 inches. The 1600m medley relay broke the school and meet record with a time of 4:13.04. Nic Peters won the 800m run in 2:19.60. The seventh grade finished second with 118 points. South Tama won and Grinnell got third. Seventh grade champs were the team of Scheel, Zeien, Kruckmeyer, and Harting in the 1600m medley relay with a time of 4:37.90. Teddy Tecklenburg, Bo Bader, Kolten Bader, and Brock Kruckmeyer in the 800m medley relay with a time of 2:05.94. Nathan Harting in the 800m run in 2:35.03.

The UMS boys track team hosted their home meet on April 23, at Union Middle School. The seventh grade finished first with a total of 158 points with DNH in second. They won eight of the 18 events which included Turner, Roussolow, Roettger, and Damro in the shuttle hurdle relay with a time of 1:01.29; Jacob Clark in the shot put with a toss of 32 feet 11.75 inches; Marcelo Hernandez won the 100m dash in 12.70 and the 200m dash in 26.56; the team of Jay Scheel, Kolten Bader, Jacob Zeien, and Brock Kruckmeyer in the 1600m medley relay with a time of 4:38.80; Dylan Kokesh in the 400m dash in 59.96, the 7 flight hurdles in a time of 12.31, and the 200m hurdles in 29.10; the team of Tecklenburg, Bader, Bader, and Kruckmeyer won the 800m medley relay in 2:07.30; and Nathan Harting in the 800m run in a time of 2:36.11. The eighth grade won with 206 points. The events won were Austin Dengler in the 400m dash with a time of 1:01.65; Trev Hadachek and Mitchell Dierks broke the record in the 100m dash both with a time of 12.05; The team of Dierks, Petersen, Hadachek and Peters won the 1600m medley relay with a time of 4:23.49; Trev Hadachek also won the long jump with a jump of 14 feet and 8.75 inches and the 200m dash in 25.72; Will Crees won the discus with a throw of 118 feet and 10 inches; Dalton Crosser won the shot put with a toss of 41 feet and 9.5 inches; Andrew Osuna, Will Crees, Matt Miller, and Brady Petersen won the 800m medley relay in 1:59.62; Nic Peters in the 800m run with a time of 2:21.00; and Peters, Dengler, Petersen and Dierks in the 4 x 400m relay in 4:11.02.

The UMS boys track team traveled to Independence on April 28, for the Mustang Relays. The eighth grade won with 149 points and Vinton-Shellsburg got second. Winners were Trev Hadachek in the long jump with a jump of 15 feet and 10.25 inches, he broke the record in the 100m dash in 11.81, first in the 400m sash with a time of 56.66, and the 200m dash in 24.95; Dalton Crosser won the shot put with a toss of 44 feet and one inch; the team of Merchant, Gray, Miller and Miller won the 4 x 800m relay in 9:59.26; Will Crees, Justin Turner, Brady Petersen, and Nic Peters won the 1600m medley relay in 4:19.65; Nic Peters in the 800m run with a time of 2:16.92; and the team of Peters, Crees, Petersen, and Dengler won the 4 x 400m relay in 4:09.05. The seventh grade also won with 181 points and Vinton-Shellsburg finished second. Seveth grade champs were Jay Scheel in the long jump with a jump of 15 feet and 6.5 inches; Marcelo Hernandez broke the record in the 100m dash with a time of 12.24; the team of Tecklenburg, Bader, Kruckmeyer, and Harting won the 1600m medley relay with a time of 4:33.56; Jacob Zeien in the 400m dash in 1:02.80; Dylan Kokesh in the 7 flight hurdles with a time of 12.46 and the 200m hurdles in 28.78; Hernandez also won the 200m dash with a time of 26.22; the team of Tecklenburg, Bader, Bader, and Kruckmeyer in the 800m medley relay in 2:04.91; Brock Kruckmeyer, Jacob Zeien, Marcelo Hernandez, and Dylan Kokesh broke the record in the 4 x 400m relay in 4:09.72.

The UMS boys track team traveled to Denver for the co-ed Cyclone Relays on April 30. The team won 14 of the 18 events and finished with 211.5 points. The Knight champions were Merchant, Miller, Miller and peters in the 4 x 800m relay with a time of 9:54.62; Scheel in the 100m dash in 12.42; Hadachek in the 400m dash in 56.62, the long jump with a jump of 16 feet and 11.25 inches, the 200m dash with a time of 25.12, and the 200m hurdles in 28.24; Will Crees in the discus with a throw of 121 feet and 2 inches; Crosser in the shot put with a toss of 44 feet and 0.75 inches; Dylan Kokesh in the 7 flight hurdles in 12.21; the team of Hernandez, Scheel, Kokesh, and Kruckmeyer broke the record in the 800m medley relay with a time of 1:52.18 and the 4 x 100m relay in 59.80; Nic Peters in the 800m run in 2:17.64; Peters, Crees, Petersen, and Dengler in the 4 x 400m relay with a time of 4:08.94.
