The boys tennis team traveled to Waverly for Boys 1A Districts on Thursday May 14th. In singles play Josh Spragg lost in the first round to Cole Melby of Hudson 6-4,6-2 and Brad Jaquith lost in the first round to eventual 3rd place finisher Nate Smith of NU by a score of 6-0,6-0. Double proved to be more successful, as the team of Trent Youngblut and TJ Gray won their first round match over a pair from Hudson by a score of 6-2, 6-1. They met and lost to eventual 3rd place finishers from Waterloo Columbus 6-1,6-3 in the second round. Mark and Eric Jesse surprised many with an upset victory in the first round against a 4th seeded Decorah team 6-3,6-3. The next round they cruised to a 6-1,6-2 victory over South Tama. The semifinals they ran into number 1 seeds Goerdt/Goerdt and lost 6-0,6-2. They then played a consolation match with the Columbus team of Walleser/Ralston and put up a good fight before losing 7-5, 6-3 to finish 4th out of 16 teams in doubles. The team finished in 4th place out of 8 teams. Conference tournament coming up on Tuesday.
