The Union Knights girls tennis team picked up its fourth win of the season in Independence on May 7, with a hard fought 5-4 win over the host Mustangs. In Singles action, Union was able to get wins from #2 Briar Zeien, #4 Haley Flores, and #6 Nadine Steger. "Briar looked extremely sharp at #2 Singles for us. It was her best match of the year" The meet would come down to Doubles play, and Union was able to get big wins by #3 team of Sara Jesse and Nadine Steger, by rallying to tie the match at 8-8. Jesse and Steger would then run away with a 7-2 win in a tie-breaker. This would tie the meet at 4-4 with the #2 Doubles match still in progress. Leigh Crees and Haley Flores would battle Megan Smock and Alisha Truax. With the score tight at 6-5 in favor of Union, the Knights would break Indee's serve to take a 7-5 lead. Leigh Crees would serve out the clinching game for the Knights win. "It was a very good win for us, Independence has beat us for the past four years, so it was a great win!"
