On Tuesday night, April 21, the Union boys golf team took on Columbus and NU at the La Porte City Country Club. The temperature was 59 degrees and it was very windy. Team results were Columbus-157; NU-166; and Union-173. Meet medalist was Adam Squires from Columbus with a 35, and runner up medalist, also from Columbus, was Sean Murray. Other scores for the Union varsity team included Ethan Wellman, 42; Sam Graf, 43; Justin Macal, 44; Colin Brecher, 44; Michael Wauters, 45; and Blake Clark, 48. For Union JV scores, it was Josh Pauling with a 51 and Bob Mangrich with a 55.
On Friday night, April 24, the team traveled to Parkersburg to play AP and Tripoli on a sunny but very windy night. Union came up with the team win with a score of 183. Tripoli was second with 187 and AP third with 190. The medalist was Kelser Schulmeister from Tripoli with a 44, and the runner up medalist was Collin Brecher of Union with a 44. The two had to card back. Other scores for the Union members were Justin Macal, 46; Michael Wauters, 46; Ethan Wellman, 47; Blake Clark, 48; and Sam Graf, 49.
Union played in the Grundy Center Invitational on Saturday, April 25, in the morning, and the 18 hole event was shortened to nine holes because of cold and rain. Team scores were: Grundy Center, 162; NU, 169; Roland Story, 170; Walnut Ridge, 176; Union, 179; BCLUW, 185; Hudson, 188; GMG, 203; and DNH was a no show. Medalist for the meet was Jon Tink of Walnut Ridge with a 37. He is the two time defending State Champion. Runner up medalist was Ryan Kiewiet of Grundy Center with a 37 also. NU is the defending State Team Champions.
