The Dysart Lions Club and Area Education Agency 267 in Cedar Falls will be checking pre-school age children for proper sight and hearing in a free screening at the Dysart Community Building.
The times of the screening will be Wednesday, May 6, from 9-11:30 a.m. and Thursday, May 7, from 9-11:30 a.m. and 12:30-2 p.m. Raggedy Ann and Andy Pre-school children will be tested along with home based and Dysart area day care children.
A parent-guardian consent form must be filled out and signed before the testing can be conducted. There is a separate form for each of the tests, one for hearing and one for sight. These parent forms can be obtained from Raggedy Ann and Andy Pre-school, day-care providers, and Chester Worden at 476-2793 for home based children.
AEA 267 audiologist will test children three and four for hearing, and Dysart Lions members take instant pictures of eyes of children from six months to four years old. It has been found that the earlier vision problems are discovered, the easier they are corrected and children's development is good when they enter school. The eye pictures are evaluated by The Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Science at University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics in Iowa City. The tests are confidential and parents are notified of problems that should be followed up by their family doctor.
The visual program called "Kids Sight" is one of the many Lions sight programs for children and adults.
