The Union boys track team traveled to Vinton to compete in the Vinton-Shellsburg invite April 3. With a few members still not running, the Knights still had a good fifth place overall finish. In the shot put, Zach Bathen threw a distance of 42'3" finishing for fifth place. In the shuttle hurdle relay, Jared Wauters, Ryan Christensen, Matt Prestemon and Zach Purdy made up a team that finished with a great time of 1:02.92, giving the boys first place in that event. Wauters also ran to 200 meter dash in a time of 23.83 for a second place finish and Z. Purdy with a first place time of 58.23 in the 400 meter hurdles. Seth Woodson had great finishes in his events, finishing first place in the 1600 meter run with a great time of 4:54.54 and a 2:16.71 second time in the 800 meter run. To finish off the meet a team made up of Zach Purdy, Matt Prestemon, Jared Wauters and Ryan Christensen finished the 4x400 meter relay with their times totaling 3:45.41 giving them a fifth place finish in the event. "The team did wonderful job even with some of the members not running yet, which would have made an impact in certain areas but I was very proud of the effort and competitiveness" stated coach McQuillen. He also went on to say, "this meet included some very good teams and the boys were right with them in every aspect of the meet." The Knights have their next meet on April 9 in Hudson.
