GARWIN-Leland F. Paustian, 78, died March 22, 2009 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, with his loving family gathered around him following a short illness. A visitation was held Wednesday, March 25 from 4 - 7 p.m. at the Overton Funeral Home, Garwin. A memorial service will be held Thursday, March 26 at 11:00 a.m. at Overton Funeral Home, Garwin, with internment to follow at Garwin Cemetery.
Leland was born September 19, 1930 in Garwin to Clarence and Alma (Luethje) Paustian. He grew up east of Garwin. On September 24, 1951, Leland married his sweetheart, Winona Krause. The couple lived in rural Toledo for nine years then moved to the Garwin area. Leland farmed and worked for the Tama County Road Department retiring in 1992 after 36 years. He was the road foreman his last 11 years with the county.
Leland enjoyed dancing and sharing with friends. He loved camping with his wife and family with Greene, Iowa being his favorite place to go. While camping, the family made many special friends.
If not camping, he was in the garage working on lawn mowers or fixing something. He loved to have people stop by to visit. Above everything else, Leland treasured his wife and family.
Leland is survived by his wife of 57 years, Winona, and by his four children: Terry (Julie) Paustian of Marshalltown, Deb (Leo) Lang and Pam (Jerry) Stalzer of Garwin, and Leisa (Joe) Edel of Marshalltown. He has ten grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. He has one sister, Marlys Diehm, of Marshalltown and one brother, Dick Paustian, of Toledo and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Overton Funeral Home, Garwin, was in charge of the arrangements. Memorials may be directed to the family.
