How long at your current Position?
It will be 9 Years in June, in Dysart, Iowa, 26 years with the United States Postal Service.
What do you like best about your job?
The community. When I first came here, I was planning on putting in my first year and then try to relocate back closer to Cedar Rapids. After getting to know the people in this community, it has made my job so enjoyable that I don't know if I can find that somewhere else. The daily routines that you have with your job are filled with the conversations and interactions of my customers. I enjoy helping and providing a service for my customers that they can rely on. I also have a great staff that really care about the job they are doing, and I enjoy working with them.
What do you dislike about your job?
When I am not able to help my customers with a problem. It's frustrating when something happens to them that I can not fix. It is important to me to take care of my customers and to help them with their needs.
One thing that you have learned over the years from your job?
I would say, accept change. Technology has changed the way that mail is processed, which is a good thing. Educating your staff and yourself to accept the continuous change that effects all of us, including customers. Computers have certainly helped the processing of today's mail.
What changes have you seen in your job since starting?
People are not always using the mail as their form of communication. With the use of computers, individuals are using them to communicate with each other or paying their bills on line, but they are also ordering products online, which is what we need to adapt to, to increase our business.
My wife Vicki and I have been married for 26 years. We have two sons, Mike, 22, is living in Cedar Falls, and Ryan, 19, is attending Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids.
Interests/Hobbies outside of work?
My wife and I enjoy golfing together. Our family is avid high school and college wrestling fans. We will be attending the NCAA Wrestling National Tournament this weekend, which is what we call our "spring break." I also enjoy spending time with family and friends, and a trip to Canada, fishing, every summer.
